SBHP Win Verdict in Sexual Abuse Case

2 min read

Sloan, Bagley, Hatcher & Perry Law Firm recently won a verdict in Athens, Texas on behalf of two young girls in a sexual abuse case. The girls, ages five and six at the time of the abuse, were sexually assaulted by a close family friend over a period of six months in 2012.

The abuser, Jim Gunder, was a deacon in his church and a respectable businessman who used his position in the community to get close to the young girls and their mother while their father, a U.S. Air Force member, was deployed overseas. Promising to care for the family in his absence, Gunder ultimately betrayed the trust of the victims’ parents, using the opportunity to gain access to the children and abuse them.

Our firm successfully obtained compensation for the two girls for past and future suffering, anguish, and medical expenses. The girls were granted an additional award in punitive damages. Our attorneys are pleased with this result, although we all acknowledge that there is no amount of money that can undo the suffering that the victims went through.
